The University Libraries Acquisitions Department mission is to acquire and make accessible information resources to advance research and education within The Ohio State University academic community. The Acquisitions Department also seeks to support the strategic vision of the University Libraries to advance student and faculty success, deliver distinctive content, and foster intellectual connections. We continuously work to develop efficient partnerships within our community of agents, vendors, and publishers to benefit OSU teaching, learning, and research goals.


The department consists of three units: 

, Unit Orders, and the Collection Management Team

While maintaining the highest standards in our processes, the department provides the following services:

  • Work with subject librarians, curators and other functional units to facilitate the selection and acquisition of material for OSU Libraries collection development and management activities
  • Search, order, claim, receive, process, and copy catalog print and non-print materials
  • Support the management of Special Collections and Area Studies gathering plans as well as Demand-Driven Acquisitions initiatives
  • Support stewardship of the materials budget
  • Negotiate pricing and licensing for electronic resources
  • Support access to electronic resources via the management of multiple content knowledge bases
  • Support data-driven content evaluation through usage statistics monitoring and gathering
  • Evaluate and process gift items and preservation replacements
  • Provide record maintenance for deduplication and shared print project initiatives
  • Perform transfers and withdrawals to assist with collection management projects and catalog accuracy.
